Girl Killed in Truck Accident

Goldstein Heslop Steele Clapper Oswalt & Smith Dec. 10, 2021

An accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike left a 5-year-old girl dead the scene. Additionally, the child’s parents, as well as two other children who were traveling with the family, had to be taken to an area hospital. However, it was not clear how serious their injuries were.

Authorities and witnesses say that the accident involved three vehicles. Apparently, a commercial box truck slammed in to the rear of the family’s passenger car. This truck accident happened during the start of the evening commute when traffic is more likely to slow down unexpectedly.

The car wound up pressed in to the median of the Turnpike, and an SUV also wound up laying on its side. It was not clear whether the driver of the box truck, or anyone in the SUV, suffered physical injuries. Police did have to close down the freeway for several hours in order to investigate the accident.

While more information will certainly come out as the investigation continues, it appears at first glance that this rear-end accident is the responsibility of the box truck.

Whether it was due to following too closely, inattentiveness or even poorly functioning brakes, the point is that this commercial driver ran in to the back of a relatively vulnerable passenger car.

Sadly, rear-end accidents involving large trucks are often much more than fender-benders; they often end with someone suffering serious injuries or even death, as is the case here.

Even if it is relatively easy for the victims to prove negligence in this case, there will still be a lot of steps they will need to take to obtain the compensation to which they are entitled. Particularly when the victim is a child, calculating damages can be difficult and complicated. An experienced personal injury and wrongful death attorney can provide valuable assistance.
