Most drivers admit to at least one bad driving habit

A recent study found that the vast majority of drivers, around nine out of 10, admitted to engaging in at least one bad driving habit which the study classified as a "driving fail." Among the top 10 fails, the most common one was eating while driving. It seems intuitive enough that a person cannot use both hands to steer when the person is holding lunch or even a warm cup of coffee in one hand. Additionally, like any other distraction, eating takes a driver's eyes and mind off of the road.

However, around two out of three drivers admit to engaging in this behavior. Likewise, 58% admitted to carrying on a phone conversation behind the wheel and 55% admitted to messing with the radio or an electronic device in order to adjust music.

Not surprisingly, texting and driving was also a fairly common bad driving habit. Of those surveyed, 27% confessed that they had tried to read a text message while driving and 24% said that they had composed a text while driving.

Other bad driving habits that made the list of fails included speeding, with 41% of drivers admitting to it, as well as trying to a tend to a child, 13%, or a pet, 9%, while also driving. Another 6% of motorists said that they had put on their makeup while driving.

While these bad driving habits are rather common among those traveling the roads in and around Altoona, it does not make them acceptable. All of these habits can easily lead to serious car accidents. After such an accident, an injured Pennsylvania resident may be able to hold the responsible driver legally accountable to pay compensation.
