Like other major holidays, many people will take the upcoming long Labor Day weekend as an opportunity to have fun and relax with family and friends.

While there is nothing wrong with this per se, unfortunately, many people as a result of the festivities may decide to drive under the influence. Others may for a number of reasons operate their vehicles carelessly or inattentively, sometimes just because they are too tired to drive safely.

Labor Day is in fact one of the worst holidays when it comes to deaths related to motor vehicle accidents. Across the country, and on average, about 300 people die over the Labor Day weekend due to traffic accidents. This makes the weekend the fourth deadliest, ranking behind Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Memorial Day.

Pennsylvania divers do not have a great track record when it comes to fatal accidents over this holiday. In fact, according to one analysis, Pennsylvania is tied for the fourth deadliest state when it comes to traffic fatalities over Labor Day. Along with one other state, Pennsylvania averages 17 traffic fatalities over this holiday.

Likewise, the number of these deaths that are related to drunk driving are also particularly high in the Keystone State. Pennsylvania is again tied as the fourth deadliest state for fatal crashes related to drunk driving over Labor Day, averaging 7 deaths.

This coming weekend, it will be important for all motorists enjoying the holiday to drive sober and alert. If they fail to do so or otherwise operate carelessly, there is a significant chance that they could cause a fatal accident or other severe collision. Victims of such carelessness can seek compensation from those responsible.
