Interstate 99 accident kills 2

An accident on Interstate 99 near Altoona left two people dead and one other person critically injured. Two other people were also taken to the hospital in what police described as guarded condition, but they indicated that they thought the two women would survive the accident.

The accident involved a mini-van that police believe may have been travelling too fast for the conditions, although police indicated that they did not think there was ice on the road.

According to reports, the van unexpectedly crossed over the median and in to the oncoming traffic. The van then smashed in to two vehicles head-on. The two vehicles were coming from the opposite direction.

The two who died were both traveling in the min-van that crossed over in to the oncoming traffic, although it was not clear whether or not either one of them was the driver.

One question that might occur in the minds of those who survived this accident, particularly those who were in the oncoming vehicles, is whether they might be able to get compensation if the driver who was apparently responsible for the accident died.

The answer is yes, although doing so may involve having to sue the estate of the deceased person. A personal injury or wrongful death attorney with experience in handling car accidents can be helpful in this respect.

In any event, this case is yet another example of why it is so important for Pennsylvania residents both to observe the posted speed limit and to adjust their speed as necessary for the road and weather conditions. For instance, a slower speed may be required at night, even if the roads are otherwise clear. Speeding along can cause severe and even deadly car accidents.
